This is with reference to media reports regarding false claims for compensation in earthquake affected areas.
Chairman NDMA, Major General Asghar Nawaz along with Provincial Disaster Management Authority Team visited earthquake affected areas of Districts Torghar, Dassu, Shangla and Swat respectively in Malakand Division.
During the visit Chairman NDMA was given detailed briefing by Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Torgarh, DC Kohistan, Commissioner Malakand Division and GOC/Brig Staff on the relief measures undertaken by the local / district administration in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to address needs of the affectees.
Chairman NDMA was briefed about the overall relief measures taken including 44,642 tents, 63,721 blankets, 9,794 plastic mats, 1086.03 tons of food packs, 22,000 tarpaulins, bottled water 14 tons, 49 water filtration plants,12 generator sets and 27 tons of medicines.
While briefing on the updates regarding compensation verification process Chairman was informed that KP has provided compensation to 223 dead and 426 injured while to date Punjab has provided compensation to 5 dead, Gilgit Baltistan to 10 dead and 16 injured, FATA to 28 dead and 143 injured. Major General Asghar Nawaz reiterated that compensation claims should be duly verified so that relief is provided to genuine affectees.
In addition following relief measures have also been undertaken by NDMA :-
• 5 helicopters are continuously supporting provision of relief assistance
• So far 98 aerial sorties have been flown.
• 3 relief camps and 27 relief distribution points established.
• All National Highways are opened for traffic as per NHA.
• Armed forces have provided 4 Medical teams to augment the existing resources.
• Verification process of the earthquake affectees is in progress.
• NDMA teams are present in Malakand Division to oversee relief operation. NDMA is constantly monitoring the situation and continue to extend all possible assistance to Provinces and FATA to ensure well coordinated and prompt response.
