Yemen: 2.3 million people are now displaced in Yemen – an increase of almost 900,000 since August. The increase is mainly explained by better data collection, but continued insecurity has also caused new displacement. Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) levels are at 8.9% in Hodeidah and 3.8% in Hajjah, far exceeding the emergency threshold. Global acute malnutrition (GAM) is above the emergency threshold in Aden, Hodeidah, and Hajjah governorates.
Syria: Up to 100,000 people have been displaced in Aleppo, Hama, Homs and Idleb governorates so far in October following renewed military offensives by government forces, supported by Russian airstrikes. The death toll since the conflict began in 2011 has now reached more than 250,000 people, including over 74,000 civilians.
South Sudan: The health situation is deteriorating among IDPs. Epidemic proportions of malaria among IDPs have been recorded, at 40.4% morbidity. Measles outbreaks have been declared at UN House Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Juba and at Bentiu PoC. Bentiu PoC has also recorded 86% of the 1,823 hepatitis E cases reported in the country in 2015. The nutrition situation in Bentiu PoC is dire, with 34% global acute malnutrition and 10.5% severe acute malnutrition recorded in August.
