IOM leads the One UN Programme Ill - Resilience Group
With 2017 drawing to a close, the United Nations shifted gears to United Nations Sustainable Development Framework/One UN Programme Ill. OPI I I is an overarching 5 year (2018-2022) strategic framework for Government of Pakistan and UN development cooperation that focuses on national level UN planned results.
The planned results focus on 10 key outcome areas that respond to Pakistan's development challenges and harness the powerful force of the UN's comparative advantage. UN Country Team has recently finalized the 2018 conveners list for each of the 10 outcome groups. For Resilience i.e. Outcome 6, IOM under Davide Terzi's leadership is set to lead the Resilience Group.
IOM spearheads the first National Consultation on mainstreaming Human Mobility in CCA and DRR in Pakistan
The Regional Knowledge Forum on Human Mobility in the context of Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Sustainable Development Goals in the Hindu Kush Himalaya was held in September 2017 in Kathmandu; jointly hosted by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Ministry of Population Environment of the Government of Nepal, International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), Nepal Institute of Development Studies (NIDS) and Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD).
The Knowledge Forum aimed to bring together policymakers and specialists from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan to support the mainstreaming of human mobility into national migration policies regarding climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction and SDGs, and to share practical experience throughout the region.
As a supporting step, IOM partnered with the WWF-Pakistan and ICIMOD to organize the first national consultation in Islamabad, Pakistan from 16 to 17 October 2017 to flesh out the plans of actions that were developed and to further strengthen capacities and understanding at the national level.
The workshop concluded with recommendations to improve inter-agency coordination on human mobility, to mobilize funding at different administrative strengthen levels, and institutional capacities for better governance.
