Serbia: UNHCR Serbia Update, 6 - 12 Nov 2017

 **HIGHLIGHTS AND STATISTICS **

  • On 12 November, 4,262 new refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants were counted in Serbia, of which 3,938 were accommodated in the 18 government centres - representing 92% of the total caseload (see the Joint Assessment of Government Centres for improvements and gaps in reception conditions, now also available as app on: http://www.unhcr.rs/CentreProfiling/overview.php. 

  • According to available information, 250 UASCs were accommodated in governmental facilities, comprising 6% of the total number of refugees/migrants/asylum-seekers in governmental shelters. 

  • UNHCR and partners assisted 99 newly arrived asylum seekers. 34% of all arrivals were minors/children. Most had left Iraq (41%), Pakistan (22%), or Afghanistan (14%), between two and three months ago. Over a half reported to have arrived to Serbia via Turkey and Bulgaria (45%), others via Turkey-Greece-FYR Macedonia (27%) and from other destinations. 

  • UNHCR Serbia published the October 2017 monthly Snapshot, outlining the key trends and statistics relating to Serbia situation as at end-October. 

  • A recent Report by MSF Serbia details abuse of children refugees/migrants along the Balkan Route in the first six months of 2017. 

  • In coordination with the Serbian Commissariat for Refugees and Migration (SCRM), UNHCR continued the comprehensive distribution of winter NFIs for adults, in view of covering the needs of 15 government accommodation centres. 254 tracksuits, 256 winter jackets, 506 T-shirts, 1,012 pairs of socks, 272 pairs of underwear, 362 pairs of footwear and 254 winters sets containing shawl/cap/gloves were distributed in Sjenica, Tutin and Kikinda accommodation centres. Special distribution was conducted in the psychiatric hospital “Laza Lazarevic” in Belgrade, which also hosts PoCs, consisting of 410 hygiene kits, 100 bedlinen sets and 440 blankets.
