Countrywide Conflict Displacement
As of 5 November, a total of 318,295 people were displaced due to conflict in Afghanistan. This is up by more than 22,000 people compared to the previous week. The provinces sheltering the highest numbers of IDPs are Nangarhar (50,481), Kunduz (31,295), Badghis (25,411) and Baghlan (18,893).
Central: Insecurity and armed clashes in Sabari and Bak districts resulted in the displacement of reportedly 784 individuals (112 families) to Khost city / Matun. Initial reports show approximately 500 people arrived in Kabul city from Wardak and Nangarhar provinces. In 2017, 18,833 people were verified as displaced in the Central Region, 6 per cent of the total displacement. Northern/North-
Eastern: Unconfirmed reports received of 21,175 individuals (3,025 families) displaced in Emamsahib and Kunduz city, Kunduz province. In Baghlan, 3,031 individuals (433 families) were displaced in Pul-e-Khumri and Burka districts. In Samangan, Roi Doab district, 203 individuals (29 families) were displaced to Pul-e-Khumri City. This year, 108,575 displaced people have been verified in the two regions, 35 per cent of this year’s total displacement across the country. Eastern: No significant displacements have been reported in the past week. Since January, 61,993 people have been displaced in the Eastern Region, 19 per cent of the displacements across the country in 2017.
Southern/South Eastern: A total of 68,919 people are currently displaced in the two regions, 21 per cent of the total displacements this year. Western: No significant displacements have been reported in the past week. In total, 59,975 people are currently displaced in the Western Region.
Refugees and Returnees
From 29 October to 4 November, a total of 862 people spontaneously returned from Pakistan to Afghanistan and another 106 were deported, according to IOM. From Iran, 9,478 people returned spontaneously and 8,605 were deported. This year, 93,000 people have returned from Pakistan and more than 367,000 from Iran.
In the same reporting period, 760 refugees returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan, according to UNHCR. Since January, more than 55,000 refugees have returned from Pakistan. In the past week, 3 refugees returned to Afghanistan from Iran. A total of 1,092 refugees have returned this year.
