Countrywide Conflict Displacement
From January to July 2017, nearly 183,000 people were driven from their homes in Afghanistan due to conflict, up by more than 9,800 compared to the previous week.
Central: Armed clashes in Janikhel, Paktya, have reportedly displaced more than 6,600 people from their villages, 1,750 to Chamkani and as many to Dand Wa Patan in the same province, and 3,150 to Matun in Khost. According to assessments, 11,588 people have been displaced to the Central Region since January, just over 6 per cent of the total displacement country-wide.
Northern/North Eastern: According to initial reports, more than 3,300 civilians have been displaced within Baghlan-e-Jadid district, Baghlan, and to Pul-e-Khumri city after a military offensive that began on 30 July. Some 5,600 people have reportedly also been displaced from Dawlatabad, Faryab. In the past seven months, more than 75,300 people have been displaced in the two regions, 41 per cent this year’s total displacements.
Eastern: More than 500 people have been displaced last week from three districts in Laghman, due to conflict, insecurity and intimidation by NSAGs, according to authorities. In Nuristan, the majority of about 1,000 people who had been displaced following the attack on Waygal district centre end of June, have reportedly returned to their homes after tensions eased. Since January, 34,255 displaced people have been assessed in the Eastern Region. They account for 19 per cent of the total displacements.
Southern: According to authorities, more than 1,400 people have been displaced from Shahjoy to Qalat district, Zabul, and around 6,300 people have reportedly been displaced within Khakrez and Shahwalikot in Kandahar. Nearly 40,000 displaced people have been assessed since January in the southern and southeastern provinces of the country, 22 per cent of the total displacements.
Western: Humanitarian assessments have identified 1,500 displaced people in Hirat and Obe district, Hirat, 455 in Farah City, Farah, 980 in Chagcharan, Ghor and 600 in Qala-e-Naw,
Badghis. The all were displaced end of July. In total, 21,785 people are displaced in the Western Region. They account for 12 per cent of the total of displaced people across the country.
