Return from Pakistan
A total of 671 undocumented Afghans spontaneously returned or were deported from Pakistan through the Turkham (Nangarhar province) and Spin Boldak (Kandahar province) border crossings from 11–17 June 2017, according to the Border Monitoring Team of the Directorate of Refugees and Repatriation (DoRR).
Of the total returnees, 644 were spontaneous returnees in family groups and 27 were deported individuals. This is a 38% decrease from the previous week and marks an anticipated decline during the holy month of Ramadan. Recent high profile security incidents in Kabul and the Eastern Region are also influencing the decision to return. The total number of undocumented Afghans returnees from Pakistan since 01 January 2017 is now 68,723.
IOM provided post-arrival assistance to 91% of undocumented Afghan returnees from Pakistan (610 individuals), including 68 single parents, two unaccompanied migrant children and four special needs cases. The assistance provided includes meals, accommodation, basic medical screening, Non-Food Items (NFIs), onward transportation cash grants and referral services, as well as support from partners (see Annex 1) .
