Pakistan: Pakistan Market Price Bulletin, May 2017

Highlights

  • In April 2017, the average retail price of wheat, wheat flour and rice Irri-6 slightly decreased by 2.2%, 2.1% and 0.1%, respectively, while the price of rice Basmati slightly increased by 3.2% from the previous month (March 2017);

  • Headline inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) slightly increased by 1.4% from March 2017, whereas it has increased by 4.8% from the same month last year (April 2016);

  • There were negligible to slight fluctuations in the prices of non-cereal food commodities compared to the previous month. The prices of lentil Masoor, eggs and live chicken slightly decreased by 2%, 5.8% and 2.2%, respectively, and the prices of pulse Dal Moong and sugar negligibly decreased by 0.3% and 0.6%, respectively. On the other side, the price of pulse Dal Mash slightly increased by 2.1%, and the prices of vegetable ghee and cooking oil both negligibly increased by 0.2%;

  • In April 2017, the average ToT slightly increased by 2.2% from the previous month;

  • In May 2017, the total global wheat production for 2016-2017 is projected at 737.83 million MT, showing a decrease of 13.53 million MT compared to the projection made last month.
