Return From Pakistan:
From 16 – 22 October, a total of 9,069 undocumented Afghans spontaneously returned or were deported from Pakistan through Nangarhar’s Torkham and Kandahar’s Spin Boldak border crossing points according to the Border Monitoring Team of the Directorate of Refugees and Repatriation (DoRR). 9,006 were spontaneous returnees in family groups and 63 were deported individuals.
The total number of returnees and deported Undocumented Afghans in the week of 16 —22 October (9,069) represents a 2% decrease in comparison with the previous week.
During the past week, IOM assisted 2,743 (32%) undocumented Afghans from the total number of returnees through the Torkham crossing (8,449) with post-arrival humanitarian assistance including meals and accommodation at the IOM Transit Center, NFIs for families, special assistance to Persons with Specific Needs (PSNs), a one-month food ration from WFP and family and hygiene kits from UNICEF.

Return from Iran:
During the same period a total of 10,536 undocumented Afghans spontaneously returned or were deported from Iran through Herat and Nimroz Province’s Islam Qala and Milak border crossing points according to the Border Monitoring Team of the Directorate of Refugees and Repatriation (DoRR). This is the first time since August that the Iranian caseload has outnumbered returns from Pakistan. 7,473 were spontaneous returnees 3,063 were deportees.
During the week of 16 — 22 October, IOM provided post-arrival humanitarian assistance to 227 (2%) undocumented Afghans through Islam Qala and Milak border crossing points at the IOM Transit Centers in Herat and Nimroz Provinces.
As per the continued observation of the Border Monitoring Team of the DoRR, about 10% of the Undocumented Afghans returning spontaneously or forcefully from Iran are in need of humanitarian assistance. Limited funding for the Iranian caseload has meant that assistance provided by IOM does not reach the total population in need.
