Highlights

  • WFP continues its relief food assistance to displaced and returnee populations in the country’s north-west, complemented by livelihoods, nutrition and education support in the region alongside other targeted districts across Pakistan.

  • In June, WFP hosted a USAID photo exhibition and visibility event. During the event, USAID confirmed an additional contribution of USD 21 million in support of WFP’s relief and recovery operations in the country.

Operational Updates

  • WFP supported the Planning and Development Commission in conducting the SUN annual joint assessment workshop to evaluate the SUN performance in collaboration with other development partners.

  • A National Consultative Workshop for the formulation of the “Multi-sectoral Nutrition Strategy” was conducted under the banner of SUN, supported by WFP with the participation from federal and provincial levels.

  • “Cost of the Diet” and “Nutrition in Cities” analyses were completed. The first will determine the influencing variables to undernutrition in urban areas and the second will calculate the cheapest possible cost of a locally available diet that satisfies all nutritional requirements of a household or an individual.

  • An introductory session on the School Feeding System Approach for Better Educational Results (SF SABER) was conducted in Peshawar.

  • A plan was developed to scale up cash-based recovery activities in all IDP return areas of FATA in the coming months to provide efficient and effective needs based support to returning IDPs.

  • The Multi-Hazard Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (MHVRA) atlases for Sindh and its selected districts have been revised and finalised.

  • WFP supported Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination/National Fortification Alliance to arrange national and provincial consultation meetings for the development of the National Fortification Strategy.

  • The final draft of the “Pakistan State of Food Security 2016” was compiled and shared with the Ministry of Food Security and Research (MNFSR) for endorsement.

  • A WFP monsoon preparedness and response related update has been developed for the consumption of donors and the WFP management which depicts WFP’s preparedness and response capacities in terms of human resources, physical presence, logistics, operational and emergency response capacities and contingency food stock position in Pakistan.
