Situation:
On 10 April at 14:59 local time a 6.6-magnitude earthquake occurred 39 kilometres (km) west by south-west of Ashkasham and 86 km south-east of the provincial capital of Fayzabad in Badakhshan Province, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake epicentre was located in a remote and sparsely populated area of the province at a depth of 210 km. Those nearest to the epicentre in Badakhshan Province reported that the tremors were not as strong as those experienced during other recent earthquakes.
OCHA contacted the following partners and there were no immediate reports of casualties, fatalities or damage.
The earthquake was felt as far away as the Afghan capital of Kabul, Lahore, Pakistan and Delhi, India.
Badakhshan Province is prone to seismic activity, most notably a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake on 26 October 2015.

The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan leads disaster assessment and response. The Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority’s National Emergency Operation Centre was in contact with provincial disaster management authorities immediately following the earthquake.
